Phyllis Shelman, age 91, of Washington, Iowa, passed away at home on April 8, 2020, with her daughter by her side.
Due to state and federal guidance on gatherings due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the family will not be having a public memorial at this time.
Private family services will be held at a later date with interment at Elm Grove Cemetery. A general memorial has been established. Phyllis was born, April 14, 1928, in Coatesville, Pennsylvania, the daughter of Robert and Elsie (Ellis) Mowday. She was united in marriage to Merle W. Shelman on April 22, 1950, in New Jersey. Following their marriage, the couple moved to Iowa.
Phyllis was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great great grandmother to not only her own family but to many others.
She is survived by her daughter, Sandy Walling of Washington, Iowa; grandson, John "Jay" Walling Jr.; great grandchildren: Destynii Walling and husband Tyler Faupel of West Chester, Iowa; John Walling III; Jayson Walling; Koben Stone; and Kyle Walling all of Washington, Iowa; and great great grandchildren: Audrina and Arabella Faupel of West Chester, Iowa.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two daughters, Cathy Mowday and Debbie Gardner; and one son, Merl "Bo" Shelman.
