Phyllis Mae Jones, age 91, of Washington, Iowa, died Thursday, July 24, 2014, at the Halcyon House in Washington following a brief illness.
Celebration of life services will be held 1:00 p.m. Sunday, July 27, 2014, at the First Baptist Church in Washington with Pastor Darryl Carr officiating. Visitation will begin noon Saturday at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 3:00 until 5:00 Saturday afternoon. Interment will take place at the Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington. Memorials have been established for the First Baptist Church, Lending Hands or Hospice Compassus. Phyllis was born October 9, 1922, in Washington, Iowa, the daughter of John Allison and Lillian A. (Pelley) Crone. She attended country school in Washington County and graduated from Washington High School. Phyllis was united in marriage to William H. Jones on July 1, 1957. She was previously married to Alvin W. Kephart.
Phyllis was a life resident of Washington County. She was a homemaker and worked as a clerk at Montgomery Ward's, was employed at the United Presbyterian Home and operated the New-U figure salon in Washington. She was an active member of the First Baptist Church in Washington, was active in the Church Missionary Circle, member of the Pansy Hill Neighborhood Club and was active in the American Milking Shorthorn Society and loved showing her milking shorthorn dairy cattle. Phyllis was strong in her faith, she loved cooking and having her family around her.
She is survived by daughter, Peggy Hansen and husband Eric of Plano, Texas; daughter, Patty Koch and husband Paul of Chicago, Illinois; daughter, Chris Leichty and husband Loran of Wayland, Iowa; eight grandchildren; four great grandchildren; and one sister, Geri Weeks of Washington, Iowa.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Alvin Kephart in 1953; husband, William H. Jones in 2005; daughter, Sara Patterson in 1978; brothers, George, John, Lawson, Douglas, Woodrow and Cloyce Crone; sister, Emily Lins.
