Phyllis Johnson, age 86, of Washington, Iowa, passed away Tuesday, February 7, 2017 at her residence.
Celebration of life services will be held 1:00 p.m. Saturday, February 18, 2017, at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home in Washington with Pastor Colton Clay officiating. The family will be present to receive friends from 12:00 p.m. until 1:00 p.m. on Saturdya. Private family interment will take place at Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington. Phyllis was born February 6, 1931 in Randolph, Nebraska, the daughter of William Lloyd and Edna Rebecca (Ulrich) Hall. She graduated from Ainsworth High School. Phyllis was united in marriage to John L. Johnson on February 1, 1949 in Iowa City, Iowa.
Phyllis relocated from Nebraska to Iowa at the age of 9 and resided in Washington County most of her life. She was a homemaker and was employed for 33 years at the Washington County Hospital. Phyllis loved animals, was an avid gardener and had a passion for cooking and baking, especially pies and bread. She enjoyed sewing, including wedding dresses and knitting and crocheting baby afghans for her great-grandchildren.
She is survived by her 5 children: Julie Lube and husband Ron of Omaha, NE; Maria Whipps and husband Bill of Urbandale, IA; Steven Johnson of Washington, IA; Kevin Johnson of Washington, IA; and Marty Johnson and wife Mary Ellen of Washington, IA; 11 grandchildren; 1 step-granddaughter; 22 great-grandchildren; 1 step-great-grandson; sister-in-law, Elmore Hall of Puyallup, WA; brother-in-law, Don Johnson and wife Peggy of Winfield, IA; sister-in-law, Irene Johnson of Winfield, IA; and sister-in-law, Mary Jo Escher and husband Roger of Washington, IA.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 1997; 6 brothers: Glenwood, Elwood, Russell, Ivan, Ralph and Harold Hall; daughter-in-law, Tina Johnson; and twin great-granddaughters.
