Phyllis Ann Hardy, age 89, of Washington, died Friday, May 27, 2016, at the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City.
Celebration of life services will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 31, 2016, at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home in Washington with Rev.Kitch Shatzer officiating. Calling hours will begin noon Monday, May 30, 2015, at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home where family will receive friends from 2:00 until 4:00 p.m. Interment will be held at Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington. Phyllis was born September 13, 1926 in Washington, Iowa, the daughter of Donald Edward and Alice Mae (Hesseltine) Brown. She graduated from Washington High School and attended the University of Iowa for two years. Phyllis was united in marriage to Roy Keith Hardy on March 10, 1948 in Washington.
Phyllis worked as a secretary and bookkeeper before her marriage and at various times afterwards. She was a member of the United Presbyterian Church and was active on church committees. Phyllis was also a member of various Fortnightly departments and had been a "Gray Lady" at the Washington Hospital for several years. She served as a YMCA board member and enjoyed family, reading, playing bridge, and watching Iowa Hawkeye athletics.
She is survived by her son, William Hardy of Iowa City, Iowa; son, Stephen Hardy of Des Moines, Iowa; son, Geoffrey Hardy of Silver Hill, Alabama; seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 1988; and her sister, Patricia Havel.
