Phyllis Ann Crile, age 87, of Washington, Iowa, passed away Sunday, January 21, 2024, at the United Presbyterian Home following a brief battle with cancer.
Funeral services to celebrate Phyllis's life will be held 10:00 a.m. Saturday, January 27, 2024, at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home with Chaplain Andrew Zuehlke officiating. Calling hours will begin 2:00 p.m. Friday at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home where the family will be present to receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. Interment will take place at the Elm Grove Cemetery. Phyllis was born April 18, 1936, in Washington, Iowa, the daughter of Ira Everette and Alta Eunice (Himmelreich) Coon. She attended school in West Chester, Iowa, graduating from West Chester High School in 1954. Phyllis was united in marriage to Marvin Dean Crile on May 28, 1954, at the Pilotsburg Church.
Phyllis was a life long resident of Washington, Iowa. She was a homemaker, assisted her husband on the family farm operation, and later worked for Washington County Public Health as a Home Health Aide. She was a member of the Faith Baptist Church where she served as the Financial Secretary, Youth Leader and Sunday School Teacher for many years. She enjoyed knitting, gardening, fishing and attending her grandchildren's sporting events. For many years, Phyllis, helped Mary Marek cater meals at the YMCA. Phyllis enjoyed attending Washington Demon sporting events. She knitted orange and black hats and mittens for the Washington Cheerleaders and knitted over 100 afghans for newborn babies of family and friends.
She is survived by her daughter, Penny (Rick) Miller of Washington, Iowa; son, Mark (Jeri) Crile of Washington, Iowa; son, Matt Crile of Des Moines, Iowa; daughter, Peg (Tim) Arbogast of Wayland, Iowa; five grandchildren: Casey (Jeff) Martin, Jerica Cody Miller, Andy (Anne) Crile, Kaitie (Marshall) Kading, and Christopher Brogden; and six great grandchildren: Samantha, Tyler, Kylin, Natalee, Kyper and Hayes. She is also survived by one niece, Jan (Jay) Johnson of Wyoming.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Marvin, in 2023; brother Murray Coon and his wife Pat; and one nephew, Steve Coon.
