Obituary

Pearl Linda Marie Greenlee, age 99, of Washington, Iowa, died Monday, August 01, 2011 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City following a short illness.

Celebration of life services will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, August 6, 2011 at the Jones Eden Funeral Home with Rev. Larry Evers officiating. Visitation will begin noon Friday at the Jones Eden Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 Friday evening. Interment will take place at the Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington, Iowa. Memorials have been established for the Washington County Relay for Life. Pearl was born January 28, 1912 in Mine La Motte, Missouri the daughter of Eugene and Mamie (Compton) Ward. She graduated from Flat River, Missouri. Pearl was married to Samuel Lee Coates in 1931 and later was united in marriage to Charles O. "Chuck" Greenlee on February 24, 1961 in Omaha, Nebraska. She grew up in Flat River, Missouri and lived in Wayne County, Iowa for many years. Pearl and Chuck lived in Argentina for a few years while Chuck worked for the Department of Agriculture. Pearl has been a resident of Washington, Iowa since 1963.

She worked at Younkers and she and her daughter owned and operated Mode O Day in Washington, Iowa. Pearl taught ceramics classes out of her home and was an artist, selling many of her paintings. She enjoyed doing still life and landscape paintings with oil, watercolor and pallet knife. Pearl enjoyed gardening, taking care of her flowers and sewing. She was a member of Eastern Star, Daughters of the Nile and White Shrine.

She is survived by one daughter, Joy Greenlee and husband Ralph of Washington, Iowa; three grandsons: Doug Greenlee and wife Joy of Eddyville, Iowa; Dave Greenlee and wife Ardi of Washington, Iowa; and Shaun Greenlee of Washington, Iowa; three great grandchildren; and five great great grandchildren.

Pearl was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Charles in 1984, an infant daughter, four brothers Joseph, Medford, Compton and Robert Ward; and one sister Katherine Dickey.
