Pauline Ellen Smithburg, age 84, of Wayland, Iowa, died Tuesday, January 27, 2015, at the Washington County Hospital after failing in health for the past year.
Celebration of life services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, January 31, 2015, at the Bethel Mennonite Church in rural Wayland, Iowa, with services conducted by Pastor Scott Johnson. The family will be present to receive friends from 12:30 until 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Bethel Mennonite Church. Interment will take place at the Bethel Mennonite Cemetery. Pauline was born November 30, 1930, in Ainsworth, Iowa, the daughter of Earl and Mable (McFarland) Gesling. She attended school in Ainsworth, Iowa. Pauline was married to Don Smithburg.
Pauline was a member of the Bethel Mennonite Church in Wayland, Iowa. She enjoyed reading, doing crossword puzzles and doing cross stitch.
She is survived by her son, Bill Smithburg of Washington, Iowa; daughter, Christine Briggs of Pella, Iowa; daughter, Debbie Manning and husband Dwight Jr. of Wayland, Iowa; six grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; sister, Carol Melichar of Edina, Minnesota; and sister, Lois Stout of West Burlington, Iowa.
Pauline was preceded in death by her parents; son, Les Smithburg; daughter, Bobbie Smithburg Wallerich; and siblings, Harold "Heck" Gesling, Leila Kelly, Harvey "Whitey" Gesling, Robert Gesling,Thelma Farrier and two infant brothers.
