Paul F. Swift, age 65, of West Chester, died Thursday, November 11, 2010 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City following a sudden illness.

The family will receive friends during a gathering and visitation from 5:00 pm. to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 16, 2010 at the Jones - Eden Funeral Home in Washington. Calling hours will begin at 12:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Jones-Eden Funeral Home. Private family inurnment will take place in Elm Grove Cemetery at a later date. A general memorial has been established. Paul was born June 28, 1945 in Davenport, Iowa the son of Marcellus and Thelma (Schott) Swift. He attended High School at United Township in East Moline. Paul was united in marriage to Janie Hall on November 10, 1975 in LaMesa, California. Janie preceded him in death in 2003. Paul was later united in marriage to Dixie "Dee" Wolf in 2007 in West Chester. Dee preceded him in death in January of 2010.

Paul worked as an over-the-road trucker for more than 40 years. Following retirement from his trucking business he worked for John Deere Implement in Washington for the past two years. Paul enjoyed the outdoors and liked to work with his hands. He owned and operated his own welding shop and small engine repair business for many years and enjoyed building birdhouses and classic cars. He had an interest in mechanics, old west culture and history.

Paul is survived by his daughter, Gina Nelson of California; daughter, Marty Collett and husband Brandon of Washington, Iowa; son, Monte Swift of West Chester, Iowa; four grandchildren; and one brother, Robert Swift and wife Nancy of Milan, Illinois.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Janie in 2003; his wife, Dee in 2010; and one brother, Ray in 1994.
