Paul Robert Smith, age 85, of Washington, Iowa, passed away Saturday, April 26, 2025, at the Washington County Hospital.
A memorial visitation to honor Paul's life will be held from 2:00 until 4:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 29th at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home where there will be a time of sharing at 3:30 p.m. Private family interment will be held at a later date. Paul was born January 17, 1940, in Washington, Iowa, the son of Ezra R. and Carrol Jean (Littrel) Smith. He graduated from Washington High School and attended several trade schools for welding in North Carolina and Iowa. Paul was married to Judy Henderson on September 8, 1958. Through this marriage, they were blessed with four children. They later divorced.
Paul grew up in Washington, Iowa, and lived in Altoona, Iowa, and Ft. Worth, Texas, before moving back to Washington in 1989. In the 1960's, Paul farmed with his grandpa and dad north of Washington. He was a Certified Welder in three states and had received training in Air Conditioning and Tractor/Combine repair. He drove semi trucks for 24 years with nearly 3 million safe driving miles. He owned and operated Paul Smith Home Repair Service in Washington and drove a school bus for the Washington Community School District.
Paul was a member of the United Methodist Church in Washington. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge # 26, KAABA Shrine in Davenport, the Elks Lodge and was a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association. He enjoyed woodworking, playing pool, fishing, deer hunting, turkey hunting and tinkering with things.
He is survived by his daughter, Peggy Smith of Ft. Worth, Texas; six grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; sister, Marcia Dautremont and significant other, Jim Farr of Iowa City, Iowa; brother, Jon "Ezzy" Smith and wife Wendy of Washington, Iowa; sister, Lisa Carr and husband Mike of Muncie, Indiana; and several nieces and nephews.
Paul was preceded in death by his parents; son, Paul Smith Jr.; and two daughters, Pamela Fields and Patricia Quintanilla.
