Paul Timothy Herring, age 89, of Ainsworth, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday, February 25, 2026, at the University of Iowa Hospital.

Graveside services will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 28, 2026, at the Salem Church Cemetery in rural Washington County, with Jeremy Mills officiating. Visitation will be held from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m. prior to the service at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home. A general memorial has been established. Paul was born on November 23, 1936, in rural North Liberty, Iowa, the son of Paul and Hazel (Miller) Herring. He attended a one-room schoolhouse in Johnson County, and later attended school in Tiffin, Iowa. Paul served honorably in the United States Army. On November 10, 1962, he married Dianne Kay Gegenheimer in Center Point, Iowa.

Paul farmed all of his life in Oxford and in the Ainsworth area since 1969. For a short time, he worked at a local laundromat before beginning employment at Sheller Globe in 1967, where he remained until his retirement in 2008. Paul enjoyed hunting and watching Western movies. He especially loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He is survived by his two sons, George Paul Herring (Vickie Decker) of Ainsworth, Iowa, and Larry Joe Herring (Mindy) of Ainsworth, Iowa; three grandchildren: Amanda Herring (Duell Regan), Devon Herring, and Joseph (Stefanie) Herring; three great-grandchildren: Kace, River, and Brynn; brother, Gene (Jeannie) Herring of Marion, Iowa; sister, Helen (Bruce) Davis of Iowa City, Iowa; and brother, Jack Herring of Iowa City, Iowa.

Paul was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Dianne, in 2022; and siblings, Mary, Bob, Erma, and Emily Herring.
