Pamella Farrell Shelman, age 73, passed away at her home in Washington on November 10, 2018, after a brief illness.
A Celebration of Life officiated by Pastor Darryl Carr will be held at First Baptist Church of Washington on Wednesday, November 14, 2018, at 11:00 a.m. Calling hours will begin noon Tuesday at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home where the family will be present to receive friends from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Memorials have been established for Hospice of Washington County or the First Baptist Church of Washington. Pamella Faye was born to Walter and Lalia Zane (Parks) Farrell on January 8, 1945, in Iowa City, Iowa. All of her public schooling was in the Washington district; she graduated from WHS with the Class of 1963.
After studying business at NE Louisiana State University, Pam worked at McCleery-Cummings Company and for the Department of Human Services before becoming the manager and then owner of Farrell's, Inc., a gift and office supply store in Washington.
On August 8, 1965, she married John Robert "Bob" Shelman. A life-long resident of Washington, she enjoyed winters at her home in South Texas. Pam was an avid golfer, card-player, and volunteer at Earthly Blessings. She enjoyed growing flowers, cooking, baking, and spending time with her grandchildren.
Pam was a member of First Baptist Church, where she served on the Kitchen Committee, and the Washington Golf & Country Club. She was a past member of the Washington Chamber of Commerce and Washington Ambassadors.
She is survived by her husband, Bob Shelman of Washington, IA; son, John and wife Raquel of Mesa, AZ; daughter, Jean McMeekin and husband Jeff of Brooklyn, IA; grandchildren: Shelby Faye Smith of New Providence, IA; Tyson Robert Smith of Des Moines, IA; Clayton John Smith of Ankeny, IA; as well as Susana Shelman of Rocklin, CA; Laura Shelman of Mesa, AZ; and Rachel De La Rosa of Phoenix, AZ; mother, Zane Farrell, of Washington, IA; sister, Deborah Farrell Menning and husband John, of Alton, IA; brother, Wally Farrell and wife Dawn of Washington; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father; her sister, Patricia Farrell Aeschliman; and her parents-in-law, J.O. and Mildred Shelman.
