Obituary

Opal I. Beenblossom, age 95, of Washington, Iowa, died suddenly on Wednesday, April 29, 2015, at her residence at Halcyon House.

Celebration of life services will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 9, 2015, at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home. Visitation will begin 9:00 a.m. Saturday, May 9, 2015, at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 9:30 until 10:30 Saturday morning. Private family interment will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established for the Halcyon House Building Fund or Iowa Department of the Blind. Opal was born November 20, 1919, in Washington County, Iowa, the daughter of Frank and Gertrude (Blick) Norton. She attended country school in Washington County and later attended high school in Ainsworth. Opal was married to Dale Beenblossom on December 25, 1936, in Sigourney, Iowa.

Opal has been a resident of Washington, Iowa, since 1965. She had previously resided in West Chester, Crawfordsville, Columbus Junction and Haskins. She was an in home child care provider for over 31 years. Opal was a member of the Lioness Club in Crawfordsville, the Good News Kids Club, was a Cabin Mom at kid's summer camps, and led the Food for Thought Devotion Class at Halcyon House. Most of Opal's many activities were centered around children.

She is survived by her son, Larry Dale Beenblossom and wife Charlotte of Titusville, Florida; son, Duane Beenblossom and wife Jill of Morning Sun, Iowa; daughter, Hope Reed and husband Michael of Keota, Iowa; daughter, Faith Story and husband Jeff of Port Orange, Florida; 19 grandchildren, 37 great grandchildren, and several great great grandchildren. Opal is also survived by her sister, Pearl Moser of Burlington, Iowa; brother, Clarence Norton of Burlington, Iowa; and brother, Melvin Norton of West Valley, Utah.

She was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Harold, Dale, Charles and Donald Norton; and one sister, Ruby Bartholow Donahue.
