Obituary

Nyla Beatrice (Reinier) Thrapp, age 95, of Davenport, Iowa, died Thursday, February 1, 2018, at the Ridgecrest Health Center in Davenport, Iowa.

A prayer service officiated by Rev. Anne Lippincott, will be held at 5:00 p.m. Monday, February 5, 2018, at St. John's United Methodist Church in Davenport followed by a visitation with family present until 7:00 p.m. The family will also receive friends from 10:00 until 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, February 6th at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home in Washington, Iowa. Celebration of life services will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home with Rev. Kwang Song officiating. Interment will take place at the Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington. Nyla was born September 27, 1922, in Ollie, Iowa. She was raised by her parents, James and Doris (Ingle) Buck. Nyla moved to Washington, Iowa, while she was in seventh grade and graduated from Washington High School. She was united in marriage to Charles W. Thrapp on April 10, 1948, at the First Baptist Church in Washington.

Nyla worked for Dr. Lemmon at Lemmon Jewelers and Eye Doctor in Washington. She received her Gemology Training in Chicago, Illinois. She and Charles moved to Wilton, Iowa, in 1948, and later moved to Davenport in 1959. Nyla worked for Rice Jewelers from 1966 until retiring in 1993.

She was a member of St. John's Methodist Church in Davenport, Iowa, the American Business Women's Association, the VIP Travel Club, and was Past President of the Davenport West Band Booster Club. She enjoyed traveling, loved caring for her plants and roses, and was blessed with a "green thumb". Her greatest pleasure was entertaining family and friends in her home.

Nyla is survived by a daughter, Connie Howard and husband Robert of Gays Mills, Wisconsin; son, Ronnie Thrapp and wife Brenda of Davenport, Iowa; three grandchildren, Daven Howard and special friend Patti Ferrell of Madison, Wisconsin; Kyle Thrapp and wife Gina of St. Paul, Minnesota; Callie Carpenter and husband John of Denver, Colorado; four great grandchildren, Lydia Thrapp, Emerson Thrapp, Grayson Carpenter and Cora Carpenter. She is also survived by sister, Fern Messer of Davenport, Iowa; sister, Clarice Deevers of Ottumwa, Iowa; as well as many nieces and nephews; and a dear friend, Marietta Smeaton of Davenport, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Charles in 1998; daughter, Marcie in 1953; brothers, Perry Reiner and Claire Buck; sister, Rhea Logan; and granddaughter-in-law, Stephanie Schmude Howard.
