Nita Joyce Hesseltine, age 67, of Rubio, Iowa, died Thursday, December 3, 2020, as a result of injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident

Nita was born October 3, 1953, in Mariposa, California, the daughter of Robert Dale and Juanita (Boles) Thompson. She grew up in Oregon and graduated from high school in Yoncalla, Oregon. Following high school, Nita joined the Army to study Telecommunications and Journalism. She served honorably in the United States Army for 12 years. She was united in marriage to Douglas E. Hesseltine on May 20, 1990, in Washington, Iowa.

After moving to Washington, Iowa in the late 1980's, Nita worked at Wal Mart, Moore's BP, and JT Arthurs. She visited every state except Alaska and Hawaii before the age of 16. Nita enjoyed shopping, taking care of her horses, dogs and cats and especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.

Nita is survived by her husband Doug Hesseltine of Rubio, Iowa; step daughter, Amanda Entsminger and husband Scott of Brighton, IA; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; one brother, Michael Thompson of Oklahoma; and many extended family.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister; and five foster brothers
