Obituary

Naomi Carmelita “Noni” Henry, age 76, of Keota, Iowa, passed away on Monday, August 10, 2026, at Halcyon House in Washington, Iowa, with her loving husband Larry at her side after a long battle with cancer.

A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 15, 2026, at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses at 115 Westview Drive, Washington, Iowa, with Luke Leyden officiating. Memorials have been established for PAWS & More Animal Shelter, Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, and Hospice of Washington County. Online condolences may be sent for Noni’s family at www.jonesfh.com.

Noni was born on November 24, 1949, at St. Francis Hospital in Peoria, Illinois, the daughter of Robert “Bob” Glen and Dorothy Jane (Hursey) Carter. She lived her early years in Peoria, Illinois. After her dad passed, when she was young, her mom, sisters, and Noni moved to Nevis, Minnesota. She attended Franklin grade school in Peoria, and later graduated high school in Nevis, Minnesota, in 1968. She received her Registered Nursing certification from Indian Hills Community College in Ottumwa, Iowa.

Noni remained in Minnesota until 1973 when she then moved to Iowa. On June 29, 1974, Noni was united in marriage to Larry Henry in Keota, Iowa. The two lived in Iowa City before making Keota their home. She worked as a C.N.A. at Maplewood Manor in Keota, Iowa, and later as a Registered Nurse at the McCreedy Home in Washington, Iowa, and TLC Home Healthcare. Those who worked with her would always say she was so kind and patient with the staff and patients. The patients’ families would often compliment Noni on taking such good care of their family members.

Noni was baptized in 1980 as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses and was a faithful member to her passing. She loved her cats, traveling to Minnesota, watching Westerns on TV, going thrift shopping with her sister DeeDee, and especially talking to people about the Bible. Noni was a happy person and loved to laugh and give people unique gifts. She especially enjoyed the time spent with her family and grandchildren. Noni had a big heart and lots of love to give.

She is survived by her husband, Larry Henry of Keota, Iowa; daughter, Tina (Jason) Lowry of Lone Oak, Texas; daughter, Becky (Nick) Melvin of Brighton, Iowa; four grandchildren: Kaden, Alex, Ryeland, and Fiona; sister, Roberta “Bobbie” Rand of Hungry Horse, Montana; sister, DeeDee Meacham of Nichols, Iowa; and niece, Teri Kelley, of Waddell, Arizona. Along with other nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

Noni was preceded in death by her son, Brian Victor Henry in 1975; her mother, Dorothy Gebro; her father, Robert Carter; step-father, Victor Van De Velde; step-father, Larry Gebro; sisters, Joyce (Willy) Greenwood and Sandy (George) Johnson; brother-in-law, Chris Meacham; and her nephew, Craig Meacham.

The family would also like to express their thanks and love to all of the families and friends that showed their love to the family over the years. The family also expresses their appreciation for Dr. Gertz and staff at Mayo, staff at the University of Iowa, staff at Parkview Manor in Wayland, Iowa, staff at Halcyon House in Washington, Iowa, and Hospice of Washington County Iowa.
