Suzanne (Nancy Sue) Wood, age 50, of Washington, Iowa, passed away Saturday, August 10, 2024, at the Washington County Hospital after battling a rare illness.
A memorial visitation to celebrate Suzanne's life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established for Paws and More Animal Shelter and can be mailed to 1004 West Madison Street, Washington, Iowa, 52353. Suzanne (Nancy Sue) Wood was born March 30, 1974 in Washington, Iowa, the daughter of Michael I. and Barbara J. (Burgess) Wood. She graduated from Washington High School in 1992 and the University of Iowa in 1996. Suzanne was married to Christopher M. Sumouske. They had a loving relationship for 30 years.
From a young age, Suzanne was committed to serving those in need. She volunteered at Camp Reece in Washington, and the YMCA and Crisis Center in Iowa City. After college she moved to Seattle where she served as a board member for the Queen Anne Helpline and was the Chair of Social Issues for the Queen Anne Community Council. Suzanne later served as the Parish Administrative Assistant for the Queene Anne Lutheran Church. Suzanne and Chris enjoyed an adventurous time in Flagstaff, Arizona.
For the past 8 years, Suzanne was the Mutual Manager for Farm and Home Mutal Insurance Association in Washington. She also served on the Loss Prevention Committee of the Mutal Insurance Association of Iowa.
Suzanne loved all animals, including her own. She also enjoyed gardening, particularly turning her roses into rose oil which she shared with her friends and family. Suzanne loved to swim and enjoyed swimming in the summer with her beloved niece and nephew.
She is survived by her husband, Christopher M. Sumouske of Washington, IA, mother, Barbara Wood of Washington, IA; sister, Elizabeth Anne Wood Crockett and husband Brendan of California; a niece and nephew: Claire Cecilia and William Michael Crockett.
She was preceded in death by her father; Michael I. Wood.
