Nancy Ellen Anderson, age 75, of Brighton, Iowa, died Wednesday, April 06, 2016, at the University of Iowa Hospital following a sudden illness.
Celebration of life services will be held 10:00 a.m. Saturday, April 9, 2016, at the Brighton United Church with Pastor Rick Zickefoose officiating. Visitation will begin noon Friday at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home in Washington where the family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. Friday evening. Interment will take place at the Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington. Memorials have been established for the Brighton United Church or the Brighton Volunteer Firefighters Association. Nancy was born August 1, 1940, in Washington, Iowa, the daughter of Franklin and Anna (Frakes) Pratt. She graduated from Washington High School in 1958 and attended the Mercy School of Nursing in Iowa City. Nancy was united in marriage to Donald A. Anderson on June 3, 1962, at Prairie Flower Baptist Church north of Washington.
Nancy has resided in Brighton, Iowa, since 1975. Following the sudden death of her husband, she worked at the Brighton Locker for six years before going to work at the Washington County Hospital as a Registered Nurse. She worked at the Washington County Hospital until her retirement in 2008. Nancy had previously worked at the Sioux Valley Hospital in Sioux City, Iowa.
She was an active member of the Brighton United Church. She was involved with the Brighton Chamber of Commerce where she served as Secretary for many years. Nancy was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and was a former member of P.E.O. Nancy was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan and she enjoyed gardening, researching genealogy, and reading. She enjoyed spending time with her children and the cherished the special time spent with her grandchildren.
She is survived by her son, Dr. Chris Anderson and wife Roxanne of Monticello, Iowa; daughter, Laurie Cobb and husband Mark of Brighton, Iowa; four grandchildren: Lee Cobb and wife Abbie; Samantha, Max and Rachel Anderson; brother, Joe Pratt and wife Alberta of Marshalltown, Iowa; twin sister, Fran Rees and husband Gene of Columbus Junction, Iowa; sister-in-law, Kathryn Pratt of Agency, Iowa; sister-in-law, Kay Shelman and husband Laris of Winfield, Iowa; brother-in-law, Ferd Chalupa of Washington, Iowa; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Nancy was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Don in 1977; brother, Ted Pratt; brother, Charles Pratt and wife Shirley; father and mother-in-law, Harold "Job" and Madelon Anderson; sister-in-law, Dorothy Chalupa; and nephew, Dan Pratt.
