Myrna J. Whittaker, age 85, of Washington, Iowa, died Friday, February 27, 2015, at her residence following a short illness.
Mass of the Resurrection will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 4, 2015 at St. James Catholic Church in Washington with Fr. Bernie Weir officiating. Visitation will begin noon Tuesday, March 3, 2015 at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. Interment will take place at Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington, Iowa. Myrna was born July 31, 1929, in Marshalltown, Iowa the daughter of Edward and Helen (Anderson) Plavets. Myrna graduated from Marshalltown High School and from Mercy School of Nursing where she received her RN Degree. She was united in marriage to John H. Whittaker on October 5, 1950, in Marshalltown, Iowa.
Myrna was a registered nurse at Washington County Hospital and later at the Washington Medical Clinic until her retirement. She was a faithful parishioner of St. James Church and a member of T.T.T and Bridge Club. She enjoyed watching the Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bulls and playing Bingo.
She is survived by son, Mike Whittaker of Washington, Iowa; son, Pat Whittaker of Phoenix, Arizona; daughter, Annette Fritz of Washington, Iowa; son, David Whittaker of Gainesboro, Tennessee; daughter, Mary Whittaker of Washington, Iowa; seven grandchildren; and four great grandchildren.
Myrna was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 2013; brother, Warren "Bud" Plavets; and son-in-law, Bob Fritz.
