Mildred Horning, age 93, of Washington, Iowa died Monday, December 23, 2013 at the Parkview Home in Wayland, Iowa after a lengthy illness.

A graveside service will be held at 12:00 p.m. Saturday, December 28, 2013 at Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington. Memorials have been established for Hospice of Washington County. Online condolences may be sent for Mildred's family through the web at www.jonesfh.com .

Mildred was born May 16, 1920 in Washington County, Iowa the daughter of Ralph L. and Iona (Adams) Oldfield. She attended school in Washington County. On September 6, 1938, Mildred was united in marriage to Walter E. Horning, Sr. in Kahoka, Missouri.

Mildred was a resident of Washington, Iowa for most of her life. She was a homemaker. She and her husband, Walter, farmed in the Washington Community.

She is survived by son Walter E. Horning, Jr. of Washington, Iowa; daughter Dorothy Bagnall of Davenport, Iowa; and daughter Carol Hesseltine and husband Lyle of Washington, Iowa; eight grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; and brother-in-law William Horning.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Walter in 2004; daughter Joan Horning; great-grandson Sam Hesseltine; two brothers: Paul and Delmar Oldfield and one sister, Marie Furlong.
