Miguel Alvarez Garcia, age 65, of Albia, Iowa, passed away Monday, October 19, 2020 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City following a battle with cancer.
Mass of the Resurrection will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 22, 2020 at St. James Catholic Church in Washington with Fr. Bernie Weir officiating. Interment will be held at a later date in the Municipal Cemetery of Degallado, Jalisco, Mexico. A general memorial has been established. Miguel was born September 29, 1955 in Degallado, Jalisco, the son of Francisco Alvarez Reyes and Josefina Garcia Garcia. He attended school at Angel S. Bravo in Degallado. Miguel was united in marriage to Irma Garcia Aguilar.
Miguel moved to the United States in 2002 and had resided in Albia, Iowa, since 2009. He worked as a cook at a Mexican restaurant in Albia and attended St. James Catholic Church in Washington.
He is survived by his wife, Irma Garcia of Albia, IA; daughter, Claudia Alvarez and husband Alfredo Arellano of Washington, IA; daughter, Sandra Elizabeth Alvarez Garcia and husband Yony Mauricio Amaro of Franklin, TN; son, Miguel Anguel Alvarez Garcia of Albia, IA; 8 grandchildren; 4 brothers and 7 sisters.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
