Mercedes Miller, age 89, of Los Angeles, California, formerly of Washington, Iowa, died Tuesday, February 21, 2012 at the California Hospital Medical Center following a lengthy illness.

The family will receive friends at the Jones Eden Funeral Home in Washington, Iowa on Saturday, March 24th from 10:00 until 11:00 a.m. Private family memorial services will be held at Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington. Mercedes was born March 30, 1922 in Washington, Iowa the daughter of Henry and Velda Frances (Weaver) Miller. She graduated from Washington High School and went on to earn a certificate as a Nursing Assistant.

Mercedes has resided in California for 40 years and prior to that she lived in Colorado. She worked as a certified nursing assistant for many years until her retirement.

She is survived by son, Allen Kiene and wife Vivian of Broomfield, Colorado; son Michael Kiene and wife Karen of Neosho, Missouri; and three grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother Marion Miller and an infant brother, Richard Lee Miller.
