Maxine Klopfenstein, age 105, of Washington, Iowa, formerly of Ainsworth, Iowa, died Sunday, July 4, 2021, at Halcyon House in Washington, Iowa.
Celebration of life services will be held 2:00 p.m. Thursday, July 8, 2021, at the Elm Grove Cemetery. Calling hours will begin 4:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 6:30 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Wednesday evening. Maxine was born June 23, 1916, in Rubio, Iowa, the daughter of Amos and Margaret (Jennings) Mourer. She attended school in Brighton, Iowa. Maxine was united in marriage to Lafe Klopfenstein on May 19, 1934, in Monmouth, Illinois. Together they had four sons: Clive, Kermit, Gary Lee and Michael.
Maxine was a homemaker and helped her husband with the family farm operation near Ainsworth. She enjoyed being outside, doing yardwork, cooking, baking, canning, making noodles and traveling – especially wintering and living in Texas. She enjoyed spending time with her family and was proud to have lived in her home until she was 104.
She is survived by two sons; Kermit Klopfenstein and wife Jane of Ainsworth, Iowa; Michael Klopfenstein and wife Patricia of Cheyenne, Wyoming; nine grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; and 19 great great grandchildren.
Maxine was preceded in death by her husband in 1996; son Clive; infant son, Gary; one sister, Marjorie Guy; and one brother, Ray Mourer.
