Obituary

Max Kaczinski, Jr., 75, of Washington, Iowa, died April 16 at his home.

Mass of the Resurrection will be held 10:30 am Tuesday, April 20th at St. James Catholic Church in Washington with Fr. Paul Appel officiating. Visitation will begin noon Monday at the Jones Eden Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 6:00 - 8:00 Monday evening. Prayer services will be held at 6:00 pm Monday at the Jones Eden Funeral Home. Interment with military honors conducted by Washington American Legion Post 29 will take place at Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington, Iowa. Max was born May 20, 1934, in Clinton, Iowa, the son of late Louisa (Andresen) and Max Kaczinski, Sr. On April 6, 1956 he married Marlene Ann Bence in Des Moines, Iowa until her death October 18, 1973, he married Elizabeth "Jane" Finke on November 23, 1974 in Burlington, Iowa, who survives.
He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War 1954-55. Before and after his army service he farmed in the DeWitt, Iowa area before joining Farm Bureau Insurance in 1963 where he retired in 2002 after 39 years of service. He received numerous company awards, including the Golden Eagle and President's Award. During his career Max was also involved in Life Underwriters Training Council (LUTC), where he moderated training classes.

Max was a member of the St. James Catholic Church in Washington and was very involved in parish activities along with membership in the Knights of Columbus and Columbus Club in Washington. Over the years Max was involved in many civic and community organizations including the American Cancer Society and the Optimist Club where he achieved the distinction of "Honor Lieutenant Governor" in 2002-2003. Max was always the first to help family, friends and neighbors. He was a great fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes where he held season football tickets for over 30 years.

He is survived by his wife, Jane of Washington, Iowa; five children Mary Ann (David) Reiling of Denison, Iowa, James (Kristy) Kaczinski of Stuart, Iowa, Larry (Becky) Kaczinski of Gladstone, Illinois, Mike (Dawn) Kaczinski of New London, Iowa and Cindy (Rex) Evans of Chatham, Illinois; grandchildren Deborah and Kristen Reiling; James, Nancy and Kenneth Kaczinski; Dylan and Dustin Kaczinski; Erin Kaczinski and Jessie (Kelton) English; Sarah and Taylor Evans and step grandchildren Niki (Jason) Gerard, Amber Lonsdale and Jonathan Lonsdale. Max is also survived by siblings Marcella Schaefer of Muscatine, Iowa, Betty Loussaert of Long Grove, Iowa, Virgen Thiel of Medford, Wisconsin, Pat (Jack) Cahill of Delmar, Iowa, Beverly (Ed) Peterman of DeWitt, Iowa, Paul (Arlene) Kaczinski of North Liberty, Iowa, Sandra McLeland of West Des Moines, Iowa, Judith Tschudi of Harrisonburg, VA, and Kenneth (Lillian) Kaczinski of Grand Mound, Iowa; In addition there are many nieces and nephews.

Mr. Kaczinski was proceeded death by his parents, his first wife Marlene, sister Mary Johnson, two infant brothers and two infant sisters. Brother-in-laws; Dale Johnson, Elmer Schaefer, Chuck Loussaert and Alan Tschudi.
