Mary L. Whisler Holden, age 97, of Washington, Iowa, died Sunday, August 19, 2018, at the United Presbyterian Home in Washington.

Celebration of life services will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, August 22, 2018, at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home with Chaplain Andrew Zuehlke officiating. Calling hours will begin noon Tuesday at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 4:30 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. Tuesday. Interment will take place at the Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington, Iowa. Memorials have been established for Hospice of Washington County or the D.A.R. Log Cabin. Mary was born January 24, 1921, in Washington, Iowa, the daughter of Fred A. and Minnie May (Sands) Donaldson. She graduated from Washington High School in 1939, and attended Washington Junior College in Washington, Iowa. She was united in marriage to Raymond E. Whisler on January 12, 1943. He preceded Mary in death on October 3, 2003. Mary was later married to Harvey Holden in May of 2005.

Mary has lived in the Washington Community all of her life. She was a homemaker and a farmwife. She and Raymond moved from the farm to Washington in 1975. She later moved to the United Presbyterian Home in 2005. Mary was a member of the United Presbyterian Church where she was active in church circles. She was a member of P.E.O., Daughters of the American Revolution (D.A.R), Fortnightly, Questers, the Snowball Social Club and the Fleur de Lis Neighborhood Club.

She is survived by her husband, Harvey Holden of Washington, Iowa; son, Stephen D. Whisler and wife Cathy of Washington, Iowa; four grandchildren: Niki T. Mertens and husband Mike of Mt. Pleasant, Iowa; Corinne L. Vogel and husband Matt of Washington, Iowa; Jason R. Whisler and wife Tiffany of Washington, Iowa; Kristina D. Morris and husband Philip of Washington, Iowa; ten great grandchildren and six great great grandchildren. Mary is also survived by two sisters-in-law, Frances Nathanson of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; and Shirley Whisler of Washington, Iowa; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Whisler in 2003; parents; brother, Max Donaldson; sisters, Leta Meyer and husband Ted; Helen Donaldson and husband Harry; and Marie Wulf and husband Erwin; one great grandchild, and two brothers-in-law, Lawrence Whisler and Maury Nathanson.
