Mary Lou Mitchell, age 87, of Washington, Iowa, passed away Saturday, December 26, 2020 at Parkview Home in Wayland.

A graveside service and interment will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 5, 2021 at Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington with Pastor Darryl Carr officiating. A general memorial has been established. The Jones & Eden Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. Mary was born January 4, 1933 in Washington County, Iowa, the daughter of Joseph and Margaret (Suffael) Lukavsky. She attended school in Washington. Mary was united in marriage to Gilbert Mitchell and they later divorced.

Mary was a lifelong resident of Washington County. She worked at the button factory, the Washington County Care Center and in the OB Department at the Washington County Hospital. Mary loved going on walks and drives and spending time with her grandchildren. She enjoyed fishing, crossword puzzles, playing cards and talking to people.

She is survived by her daughter, Peggy Jo Gingerich of Wayland, IA; son, Guy Mitchell and wife Diane of Brighton, IA; granddaughters: Jennifer Fagen and husband Kirk of Keota, IA; and Jamie Kinzenbaw and husband Jeremy of Keota, IA; great-grandchildren: Case Fagen and Jace and Jordyn Kinzenbaw; sister, Joan Palmer and husband Tom of Washington, IA; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; siblings: Darlene, Bernice and Frank; one half-brother; and four half-sisters.
