Obituary

Mary Louise Meeks, age 95, of Washington, Iowa, died Friday, August 23, 2019, at Halcyon House following a short illness.

Celebration of life services will be held 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 27, 2019, at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home with Pastor Jason Collier officiating. Calling hours will begin noon Monday at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. Interment will take place at the Oregon Township Cemetery in Ainsworth, Iowa. Mary was born May 6, 1924, in Haskins, Iowa, the daughter of P. Earl and Mary R. (Wilkinson) O'Connor. She attended school in Ainsworth, Iowa. Mary was united in marriage to Everett W. Meeks on June 6, 1942 in Lancaster, Missouri.

Mary worked as the bookkeeper for Everett's Standard Service from 1952 until 1954. After living in Arizona for four years, they returned to Ainsworth in 1959 and ran the Standard Service Station until 1965. She worked at the Four Corners Truck Stop from 1965 until 1976. Then she worked at The Shamrock Inn until moving to Washington, Iowa. From 1980 until 1986, Mary worked as a cook at the Washington High School. Mary delivered the Shopper's Guide in her retirement.

She was a member of the Ainsworth Community Church, the Ainsworth Community Church Women, Sorosis Club, and the American Legion Auxiliary. Mary enjoyed crocheting, knitting, reading, visiting with friends, spending time with her family and traveling to see her family.

She is survived by her son, Richard Meeks and wife Malinda of Mountain Home, Arkansas; son, Lewis Meeks and wife Cathi of Prairie Grove, Arkansas; daughter-in-law, Mary M. Meeks of Republic, Missouri; six grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson. Mary is also survived by her sister, Audra Williams of Washington, Iowa; two brothers-in-law, Wayne Brock of Washington, Iowa; Robert Meeks and wife JoAnn of Runnells, Iowa; three sisters-in-law, Ruby Meeks of Boise, Idaho; Rosemary Meeks of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; Katie Meeks of West Branch, Iowa; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents; husband in 2000; one son, Max Meeks; two sisters, Alma Batterson and Ann Brock; six brothers-in-law, Cecil, Buel, Leon and Mark Meeks; Keith Williams; Jake Batterson and sister-in-law, Hazel Meeks.
