Obituary

Mary Anna (Brohm) Greathouse, age 98, of Washington, Iowa, died Monday, October 12, 2015 at the United Presbyterian Home in Washington.

Celebration of life services will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, October, 16, 2015 at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home in Washington with Pastor Ben Blanchard officiating. Visitation will begin 9:00 a.m. Friday at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 10:00 until 11:00 a.m. Interment will take place at the Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington, Iowa. Memorials have been established for Hospice of Washington County or the United Methodist Church. Online condolences may be sent for Mary's family through the web at www.jonesfh.com .

Mary was born October 25, 1916, in Washington, Iowa, a twin daughter of Denis and Bessie (Park) Brohm. She graduated from Washington High School in 1935 and attended the Iowa Success School in Ottumwa, Iowa, for two years. She was united in marriage to Duard Greathouse on June 28, 1952, in Washington D.C.

Beginning October 3, 1941, Mary was employed for 5 ½ years in the office of the Chief Signal Office of the War Department and National Defense Agencies in Washington D.C., and Philadelphia, PA. In April of 1947, she began employment in the Accounting Department of the Export-Import Bank of Washington D.C. which later became the Export-Import Bank of the U.S. She became an Accounting Assistant and worked in that capacity until she retired on October 31, 1971. She worked for McGraw Hill Publishing Company in Washington D.C. from 1973 until 1978.

Mary lived in Washington D.C. and Philadelphia a total of 56 ½ years. In March of 1998, Mary and Duard moved to Washington, Iowa, and made their home at the United Presbyterian Home.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Washington, Iowa and a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution (D.A.R.).

Mary is the last of her immediate family. She is survived by one nephew, Dale Snider of Little Rock, California; and three nieces, Kay Sonderberg of Iowa City, Iowa; Ruth Brock and husband Al of Washington, Iowa; and Mary Bell of Iowa City, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 2002; and her twin sister, Marguerite Snider.
