Mary Lucile Brown, age 86, of Washington, Iowa, died Monday, December 29, 2014 at the Halcyon House in Washington.
Mass of the Resurrection will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, January 2, 2015. at St. James Catholic Church in Washington with Father Bernie Weir officiating. Visitation will begin at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, January 1st, at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 3:30 until 6:00 p.m. Prayer services will be held 3:30 p.m. Thursday at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home. Interment will take place at the Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington at a later date. A memorial has been established for Halcyon House Good Samaritan Fund or Hospice of Washington County. Mary Lucile Brown was born September 10, 1928 in Washington, Iowa, the daughter of Francis Patrick and Kathryn Louise (Eagle) Bruty. Mary attended St. James School and she graduated from Washington High School in 1946. She was united in marriage to Richard Dale Brown on January 15, 1947 in Washington, Iowa.

Mary was a homemaker and worked at Advance Ross, Perfex and Modine Manufacturing for twenty years until her retirement in 1995. She was a member of St. James Catholic Church in Washington. Mary enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren and especially enjoyed the Saturday morning visits with her family. She enjoyed gardening and was a Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bulls fan.

Mary is survived by her daughter, Peggy Walton and husband Dennis of Marengo, Iowa; son, Don Brown and wife Shirley of Washington, Iowa; son, Ron Brown and wife Linda of Washington, Iowa; son, Gale Brown and wife Nancy of Oskaloosa, Iowa; son, Ed Brown and wife Mary of Washington, Iowa; daughter, Lynne Thomas of Washington, Iowa; daughter, Martha Baker and husband Dan of Wayland, Iowa; 15 grandchildren: Jeff Walton, Deb Quinlan, Emily Walton, Steve Brown, Eric Brown, Karen Kuhlman, Richard Brown, Cary Brown, Jana Brown-Watts, Tom Brown, Adam Brown, Matt Brown, Brett Thomas, Chelci Baker and Miranda Baker; 21 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren and sister-in-law, Delores Brown of Mt. Pleasant, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; son-in-law, Michael Thomas; one great granddaughter, Paula Brown; four sisters: Cecelia Jane Gabriel, Geraldine Priebe, Theresa Scranton and Patricia Farrier; and three brothers: Wilbur, Henry and Charles Bruty.
