Marvin E. Stackhouse, age 82, of Amana, Iowa, died Sunday, August 09, 2015, at Colonial Manor in Amana following a brief illness.
Celebration of life services will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, August 12, 2015, at Elm Grove Cemetery with Rev. Kitch Shatzer officiating. Calling hours will begin Noon Tuesday at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home in Washington where the family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday evening. Marvin was born December 18, 1932, in Marshall County, Iowa, the son of Chester and Alice Stackhouse. He attended country school in rural Marshall County. Marvin was married to Shirley Thorpe on July 15, 1950. He was later united in marriage to Frances E. Crawford on April 7, 1978.
Marvin was a farm hand as a young man and worked at Carl's Crane and Wrecker Service in Marshalltown for many years. He later was employed by Marshall County Secondary Roads Department where he worked until his retirement. After retirement Marvin and Frances operated Marv's Saw Sharpening and they enjoyed many years traveling down South for the winter months. Marvin lived all of his life in Marshall County until moving to Amana, Iowa.
He is survived by his daughter, Diane Bearden of North Carolina; son, David Stackhouse of Marion, Iowa; seven grandchildren; a number of great grandchildren; step-daughter, Thea Jo Walton and husband Bob of Iowa City, Iowa; step-son, Melvin Crawford and wife Carolyn of Amana, Iowa; step-daughter, Corliss Donovan and husband Mike of Iowa City, Iowa; step daughter, Lyla Erwin and husband Don of Williamsburg, Iowa; 35 step grandchildren; 43 step great grandchildren.
Marvin was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Frances in 2014; two sons, William "Bill" Stackhouse and Chris Stackhouse; five step children, George, David and Terry Crawford, Connie Bringer and Bonnie Krogman; one great grandchild; three brothers, Willard Seffinga, Donnie and Ralph Stackhouse and one sister, Lola Spencer.
