Marvin Lee McClure was born at the family home in Washington on March 16, 1934, the son of Elmer and Edna Mae (Foss) McClure. He attended schools in Washington and graduated from Washington High School in 1952. He was married to Patricia Ann Peiffer on September 1, 1953, at St. James Catholic Church, of which he was a member.
Marvin had numerous jobs, one on construction which involved making the dirt road into Highway 1 from Washington to Brighton, Iowa, in the ‘50s. Later, he assisted his mother as assistant manager of the West End Grocery, later becoming owner in 1955 until 1968. He then became a livestock feed salesman for Yoder Feeds, BP, and Kent Feeds, retiring in 2001. He then went to work part-time stocking shelves for Hy-Vee until 2016.
In recent years, Marvin has enjoyed scrapping metals and tearing anything apart. He enjoyed reading, especially World War II material.
Marvin and Pat loved to dance and travel, taking trips to Barbados, Switzerland, Amsterdam, and several trips to Hawaii, which he won through the feed companies. They enjoyed going to Branson for quite a few years also, attending their Christmas shows.
Marvin loved spending time with his children and grandchildren, even taking some with him in his big feed truck. He enjoyed attending their events and school activities.
He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Pat McClure; three daughters: Sue (Steve) Norman and Jane (Ron) Janecek, both of Washington, Iowa, and Judy (Alan) Wery of Ely, Iowa; daughter-in-law, Linda McClure of Grimes, Iowa; sister-in-law, Carolyn McClure of Riverside, Iowa; 11 grandchildren: Jenny (Marshall) Sanders, Brian (Stephanie) McClure, Jeff (Trisha) McClure, Matt (Kendra) Norman, Barbie (Dustin) Ford, Mike (Katy) Norman, Kyle (Jessica) Janecek, Danny (Fawn) Janecek, and Ryan, Zachary, and Luke Wery; 19 great-grandchildren: Truman, Grayson, and Holden Sanders, Elle and Emma McClure, Graham, Emery, and Asher McClure, Ryker, Xander, and Zane Norman, Peighton and Preston Ford, Lane and Hayden Norman, Addison and Grady Janecek, and Taylor and Gage Janecek.
Marvin was preceded in death by his parents; son, Gary Lee McClure, in 2017; and brother, Earl, in 2023.
