Martha E. Witthoft, age 93, of Washington, Iowa, passed away Wednesday, January 27, 2016 in Washington, after declining in health.
Celebration of life services will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday, February 1, 2016 at the United Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Bob Wollenberg officiating. Visitation will begin 11:00 a.m. Sunday, January 31, 2016 at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 2:00 until 4:00 p.m. Interment will take place at the Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington. Martha was born September 4, 1922 in Washington, Iowa, the daughter of George M. "Don" and Edna V. (Chilcote) Wylie. She graduated from Ainsworth High School in 1939 and from Washington Junior College in 1941. Martha was united in marriage to Arthur J. "Art" Witthoft on June 28, 1943 in her parents' home north of Washington.
Martha taught country school at Taylor #9 and the Red Brick School. Following her marriage, she assisted her husband with their farming operation. Martha was a member of the United Presbyterian Church where she was a Deacon. She was active in the Presbyterian Women and Washington County 4-H. Martha was the chairperson for the American Cancer Society in Washington and was a member of the Fleur De Lis Neighborhood Club.
She is survived by her son, James "Jim" Witthoft and wife Linda of Ainsworth, Iowa; daughter, Kathryn "Kathy" Witthoft and friend Tom Hartsock of Ainsworth, Iowa; daughter-in-law, Kay Witthoft of Washington, Iowa; five grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, and thirteen great-grandchildren. Martha is also survived by her sister, Donna Wheelan of Washington, Iowa and brother, Harold Wylie of Washington, Iowa.
Martha was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 2013; son, William Witthoft; son, Robert Witthoft; grandson, Brian Witthoft; and sister, Virginia Knupp.
