Marlene Vogel, age 86, of Washington, Iowa, passed away Friday, October 25, 2024, at the Halcyon House following a decline in health.

Private family services will be held at St. James Catholic Church with interment at Elm Grove Cemetery. General calling hours, without the family present, will take place from noon to 5:00 p.m. on Monday, October 28, 2024, at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home. Marlene was born October 29, 1937, in Washington, Iowa, the daughter of Marion and Clara (Simmering) Sheetz. She attended school in Ainsworth and Washington, graduating from Washington High School in 1955. Marlene was united in marriage to Don Vogel on June 1, 1957.

Marlene was a devoted member of St. James Catholic Church. She was a P.E. teacher at St. James Elementary School for many years, where she also coached the girls' basketball team. Additionally, she served as the assistant librarian at the Washington Public Library for 17 years. Marlene enjoyed reading, sewing, gardening, cooking, and baking, and she cherished attending her grandchildren's many events.

Marlene is survived by her husband Don Vogel of Washington, Iowa; daughter, Cindy Ruppert and husband Doug of Iowa City, Iowa; son, Tim Vogel and wife Kim of Washington, Iowa; daughter, Lisa Nacos and husband David of Washington, Iowa; son, Matt Vogel and wife Cori of Washington, Iowa; ten grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; brother, Jim Sheetz and wife Doris of Bentonville, Arkansas; sister, Judy Wertz and husband Jim of Washington, Iowa; and several nieces and nephews.

Marlene was preceded in death by her parents and one grandchild.
