Marie Elizabeth Darbyshire Knupp, age 90, of Washington, Iowa, died Friday, December 14, 2012 at the United Presbyterian Home after declining health.

Celebration of life services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 19, 2012 at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home with Pastor Harald Gruber officiating. Visitation will begin 10:00 a.m. Wednesday at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m. Wednesday afternoon. Private family interment will take place at the Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington, Iowa. Memorials have been established to the Washington Community Y or Washington County Relay for Life. Marie was born December 19, 1921 in the Pleasant Hill Community to Donald and Vera (Saville) Darbyshire. She graduated from Crawfordsville High School in 1939 as the Valedictorian of her class. Marie was united in marriage to Arnett Wayne Knupp on March 20, 1941 in Washington, Iowa.

Marie had been a lifelong resident of Washington County, except for a few years during World War II when she lived in Long Beach, California. Marie had been a farm wife living in the Prairie Flower area.

Marie attended Faith Baptist Church. She was a member of Chapter J of the P.E.O. Sisterhood, Daughters of the American Revolution, and Daughters of the American Colonies. She was active in the Washington Community Y, Snowball Social Club, and the Sunshine Girls Coffee Group. She taught Sunday School and Bible School and was active in the church choir. She also enjoyed wintering in Arizona for over thirty years.

Marie is survived by daughter Sara Bartlett and husband Larry of Washington, Iowa; daughter Susan English of Washington, Iowa; four grandchildren and their spouses: Dr. Andrew and Jennifer Bartlett and their children Christopher, Clayton, and Maxwell of Mahoment, Illinois; David and Carey Bartlett and their children Kassen and Jacob of Wauwatosa, Wisconsin; Mark and Sara English and their children Addison and Parker of Washington, Iowa; and Amy and Tyler Marsh and their children Brynn and Aubrey of Elkhorn, Nebraska.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband in 2005, son David Wayne Knupp, brother Robert Darbyshire, and son-in-law Douglas A. English in 2002.
