Margaret "Peg" Schantz, age 87, of Ainsworth, Iowa, died Tuesday, June 14, 2011 at her son's residence in Ainsworth following a lengthy illness.
Celebration of life services will be held 10:00 a.m. Friday, June 17, 2011 at the Jones Eden Funeral Home in Washington with Rev. Darryl Erickson officiating. Visitation will begin noon Thursday at the Jones Eden Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 Thursday evening. Interment will take place at the Oregon Township Cemetery in Ainsworth, Iowa. Memorials have been established for Hospice of Washington County. Peg was born November 16, 1923 in Ainsworth, Iowa the daughter of Marshall and Omie (Funston) Edmondson. She attended school in Ainsworth, Iowa. Peg was united in marriage to Dillon D. Schantz on March 31, 1940 at his parent's home in Washington, Iowa. In 1960 Dillon and Margaret moved from Washington to Wapello where she lived until moving to Ainsworth one year ago.
Peg was a homemaker and enjoyed quilting, sewing, camping and fishing. She loved her family and lived for her grandchildren. She was a member of the Ainsworth Methodist Church and the Ainsworth Community Church.
Peg is survived by her son Donald and wife Mary Schantz of Ainsworth, Iowa; daughter Judy Grover and husband John of Washington, Iowa; 15 grandchildren; 40 great grandchildren; seven great great grandchildren; and daughter-in-law Karen Schantz of Wapello, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband in 2007, son John in 2007, two brothers John and David, as well as two sisters Mildred and Martha.
