Margaret E. Hammer, age 90, of Washington, Iowa, died Monday, November 26, 2012 at the United Presbyterian Home.
Celebration of life services will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday, November 30, 2012, at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home with Pastor Jim Stiles officiating. General calling hours will be held from 9:30 until 10:30 Friday morning at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home. Interment will take place at the Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington. Margaret was born February 3, 1922 in Winnsboro, South Carolina the daughter of Robert Howe and Madge (Coskrey) Lemmon. She graduated from Winthrop College in South Carolina. On July 19, 1945, Margaret was united in marriage to Robert O. Hammer at Fort Jackson, South Carolina.
Prior to her marriage, Margaret worked at Citizens and Southern National Bank in Columbia, South Carolina. Margaret and Robert moved to Washington, Iowa in 1946. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Washington, Y-Wives and T.T.T. She enjoyed working with stained glass, pottery and cooking. She took great pleasure spending time with her family and she was most happy when she could care for and help others.
Margaret is survived by her son, Ken Hammer and wife Anne of Denver, Colorado; daughter, Pat Mullin and husband John of Minden, Nebraska and their children: Melissa Carkoski and husband Phil; Megan Ehlers and husband Britt; Matt Mullin and wife Becky, all of Nebraska as well as nine great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Robert in 2001, twin sister – Agnes, and three brothers, Robert H. Lemmon, Col. James C. Lemmon and John M. Lemmon.
