Mabel Irene Monscour, age 99, of Washington, died Sunday, May 29th at the M.L. McCreedy Home following a sudden illness.
Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m. Friday, June 3, 2011 at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home with Father Troy Richmond officiating. Friends may call from 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Thursday at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. Friday. Mabel was born August 23, 1911 in Chillicothe, Missouri the daughter of Charles and Josephine Frazier. Mabel was united in marriage to Richard Monscour in 1931 in Des Moines, Iowa.
She lived the majority of her married life in Des Moines, Iowa. She spent five years in Florida and returned to Washington, Iowa following the death of her husband in 1979.
She was a member of St. James Catholic Church in Washington, Iowa. She was a volunteer for Red Cross for many years. Mabel's favorite past times were her children, music, flowers and reading. Her greatest joy was her eight children. At age 58 she worked at Mercy Hospital as a nursing assistant and enjoyed that second career a great deal.
Mabel is survived by her children, Louise and John Lins of Washington, Iowa; Mary and Thomas Barstow of Valdese, North Carolina; Rose and Donald Crouch of Des Moines, Iowa; Elaine Monscour of Clermont, Florida; and Michael and Sherry Monscour of Fort Meyers, Florida; twenty seven grandchildren; thirty six great grandchildren and fourteen great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Joseph Richard Monscour in 1979; daughter, Joanne Hagman; daughter, Madelyn Hoover in 1999; son, Richard Monscour; son-in-law, Edward Hagman; grandson, Edward Hagman; and grandson, Timothy Cady.
