M. Louise Holmes, age 101, of Washington, Iowa, died Wednesday, February 19, 2014, at the United Presbyterian Home following a short illness.
Celebration of life services will be held 1:30 p.m. Monday, February 24, 2014, at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home with the Rev. Kitch Shatzer officiating. General calling hours will be held from 11:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. Sunday at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home. Interment will take place at the Crawfordsville Cemetery in Crawfordsville, Iowa. Martha Louisa was born May 2, 1912, in Louisa County, Iowa, the daughter of Frank Miller and Catherine Rebecca (Marshall) Paisley. She attended school in Winfield, Iowa, and graduated from Winfield High School. On August 29, 1932, Louise was united in marriage to Robert Thomas Holmes in Rock Island, Illinois.
Louise lived in the Crawfordsville area for many years before moving to Washington, Iowa, in 1972. She worked as a Nurses Aide at the Washington County Hospital until her retirement. She was a member of the United Presbyterian Church in Washington where she was active in the women's circle. Louise was a member of the D.A.R. (Daughters of the American Revolution) and was a past member of Eastern Star and the American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed going to aquasize classes at the Washington Community Y, playing cards and quilting.
She was the last of her immediate family. Louise is survived by ten nieces and nephews including: Kathleen Nelson, Ronnie Martin, Marilyn Parcell, Malcomb Alvine, Mary Jo Mordhorst, Tana Jennings, Jane Farrenkoph, Elaine Young, Erma Wood and Bob Paisley.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 1972; twin brother, Lyle M. Paisley; three brothers, Clinton R. Paisley, Paul Paisley and Lauren Paisley; and three sisters, Vivian Martin, Bertha Alvine and Bernadine Hazlett.
