Obituary

M. Ida Carlson, age 100, of Washington, Iowa, passed away Friday, March 22, 2024, at the United Presbyterian Home under hospice care.

Celebration of life services will be held 9:30 a.m. Saturday, April 27, 2024, at the United Presbyterian Home with Chaplain Andrew Zuehlke officiating. Interment will take place at a later date. Ida was born June 25, 1923, in Gardner, Massachusetts, the daughter of J. Delphis and Alma (Houde) Collette. She graduated from Gardner High School in 1940. Ida was united in marriage to George William (Bill) Carlson on June 25, 1949, in Gardner, Massachusetts.

Following her marriage, Ida and Bill moved to Holden, MA. until 1955, when they moved to Auburn, MA. In 1978, the couple moved to Eldorado, Arkansas, where they lived until moving to Plymouth, MA. in 1983. Ida worked at Gardner Trust Company for nine years and later at Merrill & Usher Company. She was then a homemaker and took time to raise her daughters before returning to work for the Auburn Sewer Department. She later worked for the Upper Blackstone Water Pollution Abatement District as Executive Secretary and was a Legal Secretary for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts until her retirement in 1983.

Ida was a member of the Roman Catholic Church. She enjoyed playing duplicate Bridge and volunteering at radio stations, reading for the blind, reading with elementary school children and doing taxes for the elderly.

She is survived by two daughters; Jean E. (Rob) Stout of Washington, Iowa; and Barbara A. Miller of Coconut Creek, Florida. Six Grandchildren; Carissa (Derek) Dreier, Emily Meier, Alex (Karly) Zimmerman, Brian (Afton) Stout, Dana (Carl) Scott, and Amanda (Isaac Anderson) Stout. Six great grandchildren; Rhys Stout, Johnny Scott, Elliott Scott, Charlie Zimmerman, Wilder Scott, and Bennett Zimmerman.

Ida was preceded in death by her husband in 2015 and five sisters; Rita Levesque, Anita Vaillancourt, Aldora Melanson, Delia Jean, Evelyn Doherty.
