Obituary

Lynn J. Shelton passed away peacefully on June 21, 2026. Lynn grew up in the Webster City area of Iowa. Lynn knew for many years that he wanted to serve his Country. He went into the United States Marine Corps at the age of 17. He served during the Cuban Missile Crisis as well as two tours in Vietnam before leaving active duty in 1969. He then moved to Kansas City, where he obtained a job as a hydraulic mechanic. He returned to farming in Iowa in 1979 before shifting careers back to hydraulics, working at Heartland Agri Supply until his 2005 retirement.

In 2012, Lynn moved to Southern Missouri before coming back to Iowa in 2023. Growing up on a farm, Lynn was taught the value of hard work, which is something he instilled in his children. He always believed in getting up early and getting things done so he could relax at the end of the day. Lynn loved camping, fishing, old westerns, shooting, and God. His booming laugh could fill a room, and there wasn't much he couldn't fix once he put his mind to it. He was always proud of his time in the Marine Corps - Semper Fi Marine.

Lynn was the loving son of Rue and Genevieve Shelton. He had a large family with five brothers and one “sis.” Bob, Gary, Ron, Dale, and Mary “sis” all predeceased him. Lynn is survived by his wife, Coleen Shelton; brother, Paul (Cindy) Shelton; his children: Wade (Judy) McNair, Tamara Shelton, Travis Shelton, Will (Laura) Shelton, and Jean Shelton. He is also survived by his ten grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews who he loved to tease.

He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

A private memorial service will be held at a later date. The Jones & Eden Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. A general memorial has been established. Online condolences may be sent for Lynn’s family at www.jonesfh.com.
