Obituary

Lyle A. Darbyshire, age 84, of Washington, Iowa, died Thursday, March 6, 2014, at the Halcyon House in Washington following a short illness.

Celebration of life services will be held 1:30 p.m. Monday, March 10, 2014, at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home with Pastor Jim Stiles officiating. Visitation will begin 11:00 a.m. Sunday at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 2:00 until 4:00 p.m. Sunday. Interment with military honors conducted by Washington American Legion Post 29 will take place at the Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington. Lyle was born October 11, 1929, in Tingley, Iowa, the son of Dale M. and D. Gertrude (Swift) Darbyshire. He attended school in Crawfordsville, Iowa, and graduated from Crawfordsville High School. Lyle was united in marriage to Marilyn K. Kelsey on May 27, 1951, in Washington, Iowa.

Lyle has lived in Washington, Iowa, most of his life. He served proudly in the National Guard from 1951 -1954 and then served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. Lyle later served in active duty with the National Guard from 1957 until 1965. He was employed by the U.S. Department of Agriculture for 33 years where he worked in the A.S.C. office (Agriculture Soil Conservation) and was a surveyor for the S.C.S. office (Soil Conservation Service). Following his retirement, Lyle assisted at the Eden Funeral Home until 1996. He was a member of the United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his daughter, Lorilee Glanzman and husband Jerry of Mt. Pleasant, Iowa; son, Terry Darbyshire of Iowa City, Iowa; grandson, Tracy Darbyshire of Des Moines, Iowa; and great-grandson, Jayden Darbyshire of Des Moines. Lyle is also survived by one brother, Allen Darbyshire and wife Fran of Washington, Iowa; as well as his nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife in 2009, and one sister, Donna Hanna.
