Obituary

Lucille K. Statler, age 92, of Washington, died Monday, March 1, 2010 at the United Presbyterian Home in Washington following a brief decline in health.

Celebration of life services will be held 1:30 pm Saturday, March 6th at the Jones - Eden Funeral Home with Pastor Darryl Carr officiating. Visitation will begin noon Friday at the Jones - Eden Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 6:00 - 8:00 Friday evening. Interment will take place at the Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington. Memorials have been established to the United Presbyterian Home and the Washington Public Library. Mrs. Statler was born at the Washington County Hospital on April 28, 1917 to John and Minnie (Westerman) Kurtz. She attended schools of Washington County and graduated from Washington High School in 1935. After graduation she taught rural schools for six years. Lucille was united in marriage to Clarence Statler in Kahoka, Missouri. They later divorced. They lived in the Pleasant Plain and Fairfield area for some time. In 1950 the family moved to Anchorage, Alaska, where she resided until 1994 when she returned to Washington, Iowa. While living in Anchorage, she was employed in secretarial jobs. In 1982 she retired and moved to the Chugach Senior Center and Apartments. While living there she served on the centers Board of Directors, and also volunteered at the community hospital and the Alaska State Courthouse.

Mrs. Statler is survived by three daughters, Linda Newlon and husband Ron of Washington; Martha Russell and husband Gary of New Bern, North Carolina; Patricia Coleman and husband Henry of Anchorage, Alaska; four grandchildren, David Newlon of Anchorage, Alaska; Matthew Newlon of Coralville; Chris Coleman and wife Rebecca of Anchorage, Alaska; and Jennifer Tanquay and husband Nick of Lake Villa, Illinois; three great grandchildren, Sara Ann and Joseph Coleman and William Tanguay.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and one sister, Mildred Cline
