Helen Lucille Solomon, age 92, of Columbus Junction, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 26, 2015 at Colonial Manor in Columbus Junction.
A celebration of life service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, November 8, 2015 at the United Methodist Church in Columbus City, Iowa followed by fellowship with the family and friends. Lucille was born February 9, 1923 in Mahaska County, Iowa, the daughter of Fred and Clara (Denberger) Gray. She spent her early years in and around Eddyville and Oskaloosa and moved to rural Columbus Junction in the early 50's. Lucille was united in marriage to Robert W. Johnson on June 29, 1939. They later divorced. She married Barney Solomon and moved to Conesville and later moved back to Columbus Junction where she spent the remainder of her life.
Her last employment was as the Food Service Manager at the Muscatine County Care Facility. She was very active in her church, sewing club and her community. Lucille was very well known for her pies and goodies she baked for the local farmers market. She loved her family and enjoyed every moment shared with them.
Survivors include her daughter, Janice Ryan of Brighton, IA: son, Robert "Butch" Johnson and wife Pat of Kirkville, IA: daughter, Peg Griffith Stogdill and husband Randy of Crawfordsville; son, Lyle Johnson and wife Vicky of Wilton, IA; 10 grandchildren; 6 step-grandchildren and several great-grandchildren; and brothers, Dale, Zane, Marvin and Ronald Gray.
Lucille was preceded in death by her parents, 2 children, 4 sisters, and 1 brother.
