Lorna Cordell Shepherd, age 86, of Ainsworth died Tuesday October 19, 2010 at her home following a short illness.
Celebration of life services will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, October 23, 2010, at the Jones - Eden Funeral Home with Rev. Kelly Allard officiating. Visitation will begin 12:00 p.m. Friday at the Jones - Eden Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Interment will take place at the Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington. Memorials have been established to Restoration of Strawbridge-Shepherd House in Springfield, Illinois, Bethel Presbyterian Church or Hospice of Washington County. Lorna was born on October 7, 1924, in Springfield, Illinois the daughter of George Samuel and Elsa (Moxon) Hart. She grew up in Springfield, Illinois where she graduated from high school. She attended Blackburn College in Carlinville, Illinois. Lorna was united in marriage to Robert E. Shepherd on July 29, 1944 in Springfield, Illinois. She was a homemaker and volunteered at her children's schools. They moved to Washington in 1971 and Lorna assisted her husband on the family farm.
Lorna was a member of the Bethel Presbyterian Church where she served as Clerk of Session for many years. She was involved in church mission work. Lorna was a member of Fortnightly – Garden Club, Friendship Club, and volunteered at the Washington County Hospital. She enjoyed gardening, flowers and spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Lorna is survived by her son, Robert E. Shepherd Jr. of Washington; son, Thomas Hart Shepherd and fiancé Maralyne Moody of Washington; son, William G. Shepherd and wife Kitty of Knoxville, Iowa; son, Richard C. Shepherd and wife Deb of Washington; daughter, Lorna Sue Scott and husband Michael of Kahoka, Missouri; 18 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; three great great grandchildren; one brother, George M. Hart of New Berlin, Illinois; and her brother-in-law, Bob Chamblin of Loganville, Georgia.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 2007; two granddaughters, Mary Shepherd and Abigail Scott; one great granddaughter; one brother, Robert Hart; and two sisters, Melba Chamblin and Carmen Horton.
