Loreta Kay Litton, age 69, of Iowa City, formerly of Washington, Iowa, died Sunday, December 14, 2014, at Windmill Manor in Coralville following a short illness.
Celebration of life services will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, December 17th, at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home with Pastor Rick Hughes officiating. Visitation will begin noon Tuesday at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 Tuesday evening. Interment will take place at the Glasgow Cemetery in rural Fairfield, Iowa. Memorials have been established for the Salem Church in rural Ainsworth, Iowa. Loreta was born May 26, 1945, in Washington, Iowa, the daughter of Willie and Olive (Coon) Murphy. She was raised on a farm northeast of Ainsworth and moved to Washington, Iowa with her family in 1960. Loreta attended the Albaugh Country School in Washington County and attended Ainsworth Community Schools until her sophomore year. She attended Washington High School for two years, graduating in 1963. She was united in marriage to Robert E. Litton on August 30, 1968, in North Liberty, Iowa.
Loreta was a member of the Salem Church of God northeast of Ainsworth. She worked at McCleery Cumming Calendar Factory in Washington, Iowa; Mull Grocery Wholesale in Muscatine, Iowa; and AVCO Finance in Oskaloosa, Iowa. She was employed at the University of Iowa Opthamology Department from 1966 until 1968 and at the College of Education Counseling, Rehabilitation and Student Development Department from 1968 until her retirement in 2010. She was an avid car racing fan and she enjoyed traveling with her husband to attend the races.
She is survived by her husband, Robert Litton of Iowa City, Iowa; half brother, William "Bill" Lewis and wife Kate of Lone Tree, Iowa; aunt, Eula Mae Coon of Washington, Iowa; eleven nieces and nephews and many great nieces and great nephews. She is also survived by her brother-in-law, Jim Litton of Fairfield, Iowa; brother-in-law, William "Bill" Litton and wife Kay of Iowa City, Iowa; and brother-in-law, Jack Litton and wife Maxine of Fairfield, Iowa.
Loreta was preceded in death by her parents; and her half sister and husband, Lucille and John Frame.
