Loren Eugene Moore, age 93, of Washington, Iowa, died Thursday, January 5, 2012 at the Washington County Hospital following a lengthy illness.
Funeral Mass will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, January 9 at St. James Catholic Church with Fr. Troy Richmond officiating. Visitation will be held at the Jones Eden Funeral Home from 11:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. Sunday. Interment with military honors conducted by Washington American Legion Post 29 will take place at Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington, Iowa. A general memorial fund has been established. Loren Eugene Moore was born October 28, 1918 in Fairfield, Iowa the son of Joseph Newton and Myrtle Jane (Baker) Moore. He graduated from Brighton High School in 1937. Loren served in the United States Army during World War II. He was united in marriage to Alice F. (Kiene) Wehr on October 28, 1948 in Washington, Iowa.
He has lived in Washington, Iowa since 1948. Loren was a barber for over 20 years retiring in 1983. Following his retirement, Loren worked as a custodian at Stewart Elementary School in Washington for 11 years.
Loren attended St. James Catholic Church in Washington, Iowa. He enjoyed going to coffee with his friends, golfing, playing Pinochle, and gardening.
Loren is survived by his wife, Alice Moore of Washington, Iowa; son, Larry Wehr and wife Pamela of McCall, Idaho; daughter Linda Helling and husband John of Harlan, Iowa; son Kelvin Moore and wife Sara of Centenial, Colorado; five grandchildren and one great grandson.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Elmer E. Moore; one sister Mabel L. Downing, an infant brother, an infant sister, and half-brother Donal Moore.
