She was raised during the Great Depression along the banks of the Skunk River where farming was difficult. Lola also worked at the McCleery Cumming Calendar Factory and the American Pearl Button Company. She married Bernard J. Reed in 1940 in Washington, Iowa and they moved to Jackson Township where they worked for Everett Stewart. They later purchased a farm on Redwood Avenue where they farmed until 1980. Lola was famous for her canning, cooking and her homemade pies. She enjoyed traveling, bingo and was an early investor in the Riverside Casino.
