Lois L. Kauffman, age 90, of Washington, Iowa, died Tuesday, February 25, 2014, at the Parkview Home in Wayland, Iowa, following a short illness.
Mass of the Resurrection will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday, February 28, 2014, at St. James Catholic Church in Washington with Fr. Troy Richmond officiating. Visitation will begin 2:00 p.m. Thursday at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. Prayer services will be held 7:00 p.m. Thursday at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home. Interment will take place at Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington, Iowa. Memorials have been established for St. James Church or a general memorial. Lois was born February 16, 1924, in Washington, Iowa, the daughter of Edward and Eva ( See) Nelson. She attended Walnut Country School and graduated from Washington High School. Lois later attended Washington Jr. College in Washington, Iowa. She was united in marriage to Edward L. Kauffman on November 26, 1941, at St. James Church in Washington, Iowa.
Lois lived most of her life south of Washington. She was a homemaker and assisted her husband with the farming operation. In her earlier days, Lois worked at Winga's Restaurant and Brigham Young's TV Lab. She later was an Avon Representative and Home Interior Representative for several years.
She was a member of St. James Catholic Church and the Y Women. Lois enjoyed entertaining and visiting with family and friends. She enjoyed baking, cooking, playing cards and dancing. She especially cherished the time spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Lois is survived by one daughter, Carolyn Pilcher and husband Bob of Ottumwa, IA; daughter-in-law, Juanita Kauffman of Washington, IA; daughter-in-law, Vicki Ropp and husband Myron of Kalona, IA; ten grandchildren; six step grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; 12 step great-grandchildren; 1great great-granddaughter; and 13 step great great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 2006; two sons, James in 1988 and Kenneth in 1992; and two brothers, Carl and Lloyd Nelson.
