Obituary

Lois Jean (Hayes) Greiner, age 82, of Washington, Iowa, passed away Saturday, November 18, 2023, at Halcyon House in Washington.

Mass of the Resurrection will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 25, 2023, at St. James Catholic Church in Washington with Fr. Bernie Weir officiating. Calling hours will begin 2:00 p.m. Friday at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home where the family will be present to receive friends from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. Prayer services will begin at 4:30 p.m. Friday at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home. Private family interment will take place at the Grace Hill Cemetery in rural Washington County. Memorials have been established for Halcyon House Good Samaritan Fund, St. James Catholic Church or the Grace Hill Cemetery. Online condolences may be sent for Lois's family at www.jonesfh.com .

Lois was born July 9, 1941, in Washington, Iowa, the daughter of Cloyce "Tim" McNeese Hayes and Ruth Enloe (Davis) Hayes. Lois attended country school at Wellston Grade School and graduated from Washington High School. She attended Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls, Iowa. Lois was united in marriage to Jerry F. Greiner on February 1, 1964 at St. James Catholic Church in Washington. He preceded her in death in 2008.

Lois dedicated herself to homemaking while actively supporting her husband in managing the family farm. She was a member of the St. James Catholic Church and Daughters of the American Revolution and actively participated in various community organizations, such as serving as the Past President of Fortnightly, leading the local 4-H chapter for five years, acting as Treasurer of P.E.O., and holding the position of P.E.O. Chaplain for three years.

She is survived by daughter, Theresa Greiner of Urbandale, Iowa; son, Russ Greiner of Keota, Iowa; son, Matt Greiner and wife Janet and their children Catherine, Elizabeth and John Steven of Jacksonville, Florida; son Ben Greiner and wife Kim and their children Benjamin and Lauryn of Edmond, Oklahoma; and son Frank Greiner and his children William, Josephine, Augusta, Lillian and Brandon of Keota, Iowa. She is also survived by her sister, Joan Waggoner of Davenport, Iowa.

Lois was preceded in death by her parents Tim and Ruth; husband, Jerry; and two brothers, Charles Hayes and Lloyd "George" Hayes.
