Obituary

Lois Bremer Buchholz, age 83, of Washington, Iowa, died Wednesday, January 6, 2021, at the United Presbyterian Home in Washington.

Celebration of life services will be held at a later date. Memorials have been established for Lending Hands, Brownlee Health Center of the United Presbyterian Home, Immanuel Lutheran Church or Hospice of Washington County. Lois was born December 20, 1937, in Metropolis, Illinois, the daughter of Dewey and Ruby (Krueger) Bremer. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. Lois graduated from Metropolis High School in 1956 and attended Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa, where she received her two year degree in Parish Work. She was united in marriage to Leroy "Lee" Buchholz on June 5, 1960, in Metropolis, Illinois.

Lois worked for Zion Lutheran Church in Waterloo, Iowa and for Immanuel Lutheran Church in Washington, Iowa. She also worked for the Waterloo Courier and provided baby sitting services for area families. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church where she was active in the Women's Society. Lois was a great cook and baker and baked extensively during the Christmas Season. She enjoyed entertaining, hosting Christmas parties, hosting neighborhood block parties, visiting with friends and singing. Lois was a very inviting person and was known for her hugs and contagious laugh.

She is survived by her husband, Leroy "Lee" Buchholz of Washington, Iowa; four children: Renee Buchholz of Washington, Iowa and significant other, Calvin Jones of Pleasant Plain, Iowa; Erik Buchholz and wife Christy of Washington, Iowa; Heidi Kaufman and husband Andy of Mission, Texas; Brad Buchholz of Council Bluffs, Iowa; five grandchildren: Kaitlin and Jessie Buchholz, Colton and Kailey Kaufman, and Jenna Aldridge. She is also survived by her sister, Marie Steege and husband Richard of Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Lois was preceded in death by her parents; one sister Pauline Haden and husband Tom, many aunts, uncles and cousins.
