Obituary

Linda K. Newlon, age 82, of Washington, Iowa, passed away Monday, September 28, 2026, at the United Presbyterian Home in Washington.

Private family services will be held at Elm Grove Cemetery. A time to celebrate Linda’s life to be held at the United Presbyterian Home Town Center from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 10, 2026. Memorials have been established for Hospice of Washington County and the United Presbyterian Home Library. Online condolences may be sent for Linda’s family at www.jonesfh.com.

Linda was born on November 28, 1943, in Washington, Iowa, the daughter of Clarence and Lucille (Kurtz) Statler. At the age of five, Linda and her family moved to Alaska, where graduated from East Anchorage High School in 1962. Linda was united in marriage to Ron Newlon on June 12, 1964, in Alaska.

Linda dedicated her time to being a stay-at-home mother to her boys while Ron worked in the oil fields of Alaska. She later worked as a medical receptionist. In 1995, Linda and Ron moved back to Iowa, where she began working at McCleery Cumming Calendar Factory. She later worked at the Washington County Recorder’s Office until her retirement and volunteered at the hospital gift shop for over 10 years.

Linda was a member of T.T.T., the Red Hat Society, and the Martha Washington Questers. She enjoyed reading, gardening, and decorating for all occasions. She and Ron wintered in Mesa, Arizona, for many years. Linda especially enjoyed keeping in touch with old friends and spending time with her children and grandpuppy, Archie.

Linda is survived by her son, David Newlon of Anchorage, Alaska; son, Matthew (Hayley) Newlon of Iowa City, Iowa; sisters, Martha (Gary) Russell of Washington, Iowa, and Patricia (Henry) Coleman of Anchorage, Alaska.

Preceding her in death were her parents; and husband, Ron in 2025.
